Santiment
An alternative-data feed mixing on-chain metrics (NVT, active addresses) with social signals (keywords, sentiment indices).
About this site
Santiment is a leading example of putting on-chain data and social sentiment in the same product. Founded in Europe and operated independently, it is positioned to give behavior-oriented analysts a dimension beyond price: address behavior, developer activity, and how often and how positively a coin is discussed on public social media.
The product covers three areas. On-chain behavior: active addresses, whale activity, age-consumed tokens, and standard valuation models such as NVT and MVRV. Social sentiment: mention volume, polarity, and trending shifts across Twitter/X, Reddit, Telegram and similar public venues. Developer activity: GitHub commit cadence, contributor distribution, and a composite developer-health score. Around these data sets sit the Sanbase web app, SanSheets (a Google Sheets plug-in that pulls data directly), and the developer-tier SanAPI.
Three usage patterns stand out. Researchers track whether community discussion "moves before price" around major narratives — new chain launches, airdrops, protocol upgrades. Traders treat a sustained drop in developer activity as a long-horizon caution signal. Quantitative teams blend social-sentiment indicators into strategies as non-price factors.
Its differentiator is "sentiment plus on-chain" in a single workspace. Glassnode and CryptoQuant do not cover social; dedicated sentiment shops such as LunarCrush do not go deep on chain. Santiment is one of the few vendors integrating both behind a unified query layer. The trade-off is that depth in any single dimension trails the specialists.
Limitations and caveats: social-sentiment data is sourced from public APIs and scraping and is contaminated by bots and coordinated activity, so users must understand the denoising logic; most advanced indicators and higher-frequency updates sit behind paid plans; developer scores draw on public repositories and may miss private or multi-repo projects; any indicator reading or sentiment score is a research aid and does not constitute investment advice. Crypto-asset volatility means correlations between sentiment and price can break down abruptly.
